It may have been built on the same frame as the Alfa Romeo Tonale SUV, however, the all-new 2023 Dodge Hornet –sold at a base price of under $ 40,000- has its own unique identity that shares the same DNA as other Dodge muscle cars. A compact vehicle, this Dodge SUV remains loyal to its sporty roots and promises very exciting performance levels.

Given its ‘hornet’ name, the manufacturer has even applied this design on the wings whose stylised shape reminds us of high speeds. Here are a few details for the 2023 Dodge Hornet.

Trim levels

Although we don’t have many more specific details regarding trims and prices for the 2023 Dodge Hornet, we do know that it will at least offer two versions including a hybrid: the GT and the R/T hybrid.

Performance

There will also be two different powertrain options for the 2023 Hornet; here are the details for each:

Model Engine Power Torque
Hornet GT 2.0 L 4- cylinder turbocharged Hurricane 268 HP 295 lb-ft.
Hornet R/T hybrid 1.3 L 4- cylinder + 90 kW electric motor 285 HP 383 lb-ft.

Coupled with a 9- speed automatic transmission, this small SUV offers 17- and 20- inch wheels. The Hurricane motor wears its name well, especially given how much power it will provide you with, and with a 0-100 km/hr reached in just 6.5 seconds. However, this superb utility will require premium fuel.

In its hybrid version, the Hornet R/T relies on a 90 kW electric motor and a 15.5 kWh lithium-ion battery that boosts cavalry to 285 horsepower and a 0-100 km/hr time of just 6.2 seconds. 100 % electric range reaches up to 50 kilometers.

Another unique aspect of the Hornet, on top of the all-wheel drive system that is found on both models, is the fact that you can choose to add an extra dose of 25 horsepower, available instantly, thanks to the PowerShot feature, which is only available on the hybrid model.

And despite the fact that it is mostly destined for urban settings, you should know that the 2023 Dodge Hornet offers a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds (907 kg).

A stunning look

It is easy to guess that Dodge stylists had the time of their lives designing the Hornet, with boomerang shaped headlights, the full width rear light strip, the double exhaust tips, the Brembo brake calipers, without forgetting the sloped roof line that definitely gives it an extra sporty edge. You will also have the choice between 7 magnificent body colors, including:

  • Acapulco Gold;
  • Blu Bayou;
  • Blue Steele;
  • Gray Cray;
  • Hot Tamale;
  • Q Ball;
  • 8 Ball.

The black interior –which is geared towards the driver- offers a sober and elegant ambiance, and the red contrasting topstitches on the armrests, the seats and the dashboard bring a dash of bright color to liven things up. Let’s also mention that the interior is almost identical to the Alfa Romeo Tonale. Amongst other features, you will find:

  • The 3- spoke sports steering wheel;
  • Leather upholstery;
  • A 12.3- inch digital screen;
  • The Uconnect 5 infotainment system;
  • A 10.25- inch touch screen on which the G force and performance pages are displayed.

Safety

Regardless of the price you pay for your 2023 Dodge Hornet, it will be equipped with loads of safety features such as:

  • Automatic Emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection;
  • Lane-Departure Warning;
  • Blind Spot Warning.

As an option, you could add:

  • Drowsy Driver Alert;
  • Road Sign Recognition;
  • An Intelligent Cruise Control.
